Fly-half Daniel Bowden has signed a two-year contract with Auckland after three years away playing for Northland and one season for Otago.
The 22 year-old is looking forward to returning to the city where he grew up when he joins Auckland for the 2009 Air New Zealand Cup.
He will play for the Highlanders in next year's Super 14 after a successful stint with the South Island franchise earlier this year.
"I have been playing for other teams for four years so it will be good to be back in Auckland with my family," said Bowden.
"I had a great rugby experience in Northland and I learnt a lot, especially from David Holwell who is the biggest influence on my rugby career, and I really enjoyed my time with Otago and the Highlanders over the past season.
"But I really want to get back home."
Bowden is also looking forward to renewing his playing career under newly-appointed Auckland coach Mark Anscombe.
"I played under Mark for two seasons up north and he is a quality coach," said Bowden.
"He gets the best out of players and is able to inspire his teams to reach the goals they set out to achieve."
