Pacific Island shakeup: Ilivasi Tabua has stood down as coach

Fijian Ilivasi Tabua stood down on Tuesday as Head Coach of the Pacific Islanders' squad to tour Europe in November.

Tabua cited unforeseen personal circumstances, including time pressures, in announcing his decision through Pacific Rugby ltd. chairman Keni Dakuidreketi.

"It's a tribute to Ili for making this decision as I know he was looking forward to the challenge of coaching the Pacific Islanders side in Tests against England, France and Italy," Dakuidreketi said.

Tongan World Cup coach Quiddus Fielea, previously in charge of the Pacific Islanders' back-line, has been appointed to replace Tabua.

"Fielea is the head coach of Tonga and no stranger to the pressures of Test match rugby," Dakuidreketi said.

Former Wallaby full-back and Sevens coach Glen Ella was named Tuesday to replace Fielea as back-line coach.

John McKee, who has coached extensively in Europe and Australia, will act as skills coach on the tour which begins on November 2.
