Parma take charge of Falcons` pool

Sunday 19th October 2008

Overmach Parma are sitting atop the European Challenge Cup Pool Two - which includes Newcastle and Brive - after a sterling 59-21 away win at Cetransa El Salvador on Sunday.

Parma racked up eight tries in all, with wing Roberto Mariani opening the scoring in the eighth minute.

Italy international Manoa Vosawai scored the second, and Ben Irving added a penalty to his two conversions to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

The Italians didn't have it all their own way, as Turrión answered for El Salvador in an open game.

But the tries kept coming, as Giulio Rubini, Alessandro Chillon, Pelu Taele, and Davide Giazzon all scored, with Irving converting all, to rack up a 45-11 scoreline - Redghart van Eyk kicking two penalties for the Spanish side.

Meeuwis Stanley scored a second try for el Salvador, and Van Eyk's conversion and another penalty brought the score back to 21-45 with 20 minutes to play.

But late tries for Juan Sobredini and Rubini's second sealed the deal for Overmach Parma, who face back-to-back matches with Newcastle in December, having already conquered Brive.

Worcester completed a predictable bonus-point win in Bucharest, beating the Bucuresti Oaks 53-17.

Rico Gear (twice), Sam Tuitoupu, Ryan Powell, Craig Gillies, Joe Carlisle, and a penalty try were Worcester's scores, while Jeff Makapelu dotted down twice for the Romanians, with Florin Vlaicu converting twice and adding a penalty.

Worcester are now comfortbaly top of Pool Three with maximum points from their matches so far.
